A longer run means more refrigerant pipe, more insulation, and more labour routing it through walls or ceiling voids. A flat "AC installation" price that assumes the shortest possible run doesn't hold up once the actual room layout is measured.
External condenser unit placement can occasionally raise planning considerations, particularly on flats, listed buildings, or where noise near a boundary is a factor. Flag this early if the property looks likely to need it. Otherwise you risk discovering a placement problem after the unit has already been ordered to a specific size and spec.
Demand for AC installation spikes hard in summer. Being upfront about lead times during peak season is worth stating on the quote itself. A customer booking in June expecting July installation needs to know if your actual schedule runs to August, instead of finding out only when they chase you for a date.

VAT
In homes, HMRC treats most fixed air conditioning units as air source heat pumps, which are zero-rated (0%) as energy-saving materials until 31 March 2027 in Great Britain. Portable units don't qualify, and where it's unclear whether a product counts, HMRC says it depends on the facts — check before zero-rating.
Installations in commercial premises (offices, shops, surgeries) are standard-rated at 20%.
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
Air-conditioning installation is explicitly a construction operation, so CIS applies when subcontracting.
