Payment methods and bank transfer details in this article (BACS, sort codes) are based on UK banking. The options available to you will depend on your country.
Giving clients multiple ways to pay increases the chances of getting paid quickly. Here are the most common options.
Bank transfer (BACS)
The most common method for UK trade businesses. Clients transfer directly to your account using your sort code and account number. No fees, but payment can take 1–3 days and late payment is common.
Card payment (online)
Clients pay directly from the invoice link using their card. Fast, convenient, and eliminates late payment. Stripe processing fees apply. Available on BillSend Pro.
Cash
Still common for smaller trade jobs. No fees, instant. Always issue a receipt and record the payment in BillSend by marking the invoice paid manually.
Cheque
Increasingly rare. Slow to clear (can take 5–7 days) and inconvenient. Only worth accepting if a client specifically requests it.
Add your preferred payment methods to the payment instructions field in Settings. This text appears on every invoice so clients always know how to pay.
