Things to know
Decide upfront whether appliances are customer-supplied or ones you're sourcing, and mark it clearly on the quote. A customer who buys their own oven and finds it doesn't fit the cut-out you built the units around will blame the fitter, not the appliance choice. Note exact appliance dimensions and model numbers on the quote to protect yourself before the units are even ordered.
Worktop templating deserves its own line, priced separately from carcass fitting. It typically happens after units are installed and before the worktop is cut, which means a second site visit with its own travel time. Folding it silently into a flat "kitchen fitting" price makes it invisible and easy to underprice when a job runs to two visits instead of one.
A kitchen fit rarely stays inside one trade. Plumbing for the sink and dishwasher, and an electrician for new sockets and under-unit lighting, both need to happen at specific points: first fix before units go in, second fix after. State clearly which trades you're coordinating directly and which the customer needs to arrange themselves, so nobody discovers a missing electrician mid-installation.
Removing and disposing of the old kitchen is real, billable labour and van space, not a courtesy. Skip hire or tip runs cost money and time either way. Price it as its own line so a customer comparing your quote against one that quietly excludes disposal is comparing like for like, instead of assuming yours is more expensive for the same job.

Common kitchen fitter jobs and how to price them
- Fit-only kitchens
- Customer buys the kitchen; you quote per unit plus worktops, appliances and plumbing, with a site survey first.
- Supply-and-fit kitchens
- Fixed price with a supplier quote attached and a deposit taken before ordering.
- Worktop replacements
- Per metre plus templating for stone, and making good to tiles or upstands.
- Appliance swaps
- Per appliance, including adjusting cabinets for integrated units.
Regulations and certificates to reference
- Gas Safe Register — connecting a gas hob or range cooker must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If that is not you, list the connection as excluded or as a subcontracted line.
- Building Regulations Part P — a new cooker circuit or a new circuit for an island is notifiable electrical work. Like-for-like socket moves on existing circuits usually are not.
- Building Regulations Part F (ventilation) — a kitchen needs mechanical extraction — about 30 litres per second with a hood over the hob, or 60 l/s for a wall fan elsewhere. Quote the extractor and ducting.
Payment terms kitchen fitters commonly use
- Supply-and-fit: 30–50% deposit to order units, a stage payment on delivery, balance on completion.
- Fit-only: deposit to book the slot, balance on completion.
- Stone worktops: paid in full to the supplier before templating — state that clearly.

VAT and CIS for kitchen fitters
VAT
Kitchen supply and fitting is standard-rated at 20% once registered. If the customer buys the units directly, you only charge VAT on your labour.
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
Fitting kitchens on a building project is a construction operation. If you subcontract to a builder, CIS applies to your labour; if you sell and fit direct to homeowners, it does not.

Only if they are Gas Safe registered. Otherwise the quote should exclude the gas connection, or include it as a line done by a registered engineer.
Stone and quartz worktops are cut to a template taken after the base units are fitted. It is a separate visit and a separate stage. Listing it explains the gap between units going in and worktops arriving.
If the job needs a new circuit, such as for an induction hob or an island, it is notifiable under Part P. Include it as a line from a registered electrician, or exclude it clearly.
Attach the signed-off plan to the quote and state that changes after ordering are chargeable. Most fitting disputes come from a design nobody signed.
Either works, but state it explicitly and record model numbers and dimensions on the quote — a mismatch between an appliance and the cut-out built around it is the most common kitchen-fitting dispute.
Templating usually happens on a second visit after units are fitted, with its own travel time and labour. Pricing it separately reflects the real two-visit structure of most kitchen jobs.
